Are we ready for desperate measures? Veteran climate activist/author Mike Tidwell: the year of despair in his new book "The Lost Trees of Willow Avenue - A Story of Climate and Hope on One American Street". Thomas Jefferson—writer of the Declaration of Independence, founding father, and king of contradictions. In this episode, Eric Mason and Kyle break down the messy reality of his presidency, from his high-minded ideals to his economic and diplomatic faceplants. Spoiler: for a guy who hated big government, he sure loved using executive power when it suited him.
Let’s talk about the Embargo Act of 1807, Jefferson’s boldest move that was supposed to stick it to Britain and France but instead tanked the U.S. economy—especially in New England, where people were not amused. Then there’s the Barbary Wars, where Jefferson, who supposedly loathed standing armies, suddenly had zero problem using military force. And don’t forget the Jay Treaty and Treaty of San Lorenzo, which shaped America’s early trade policies and secured access to the Mississippi River (because, let’s be real, without it, we were screwed).
Oh, and his never-ending beef with Alexander Hamilton? Yeah, that played a major role in shaping America’s financial system. Add in some international chaos, an escalating conflict with Britain, and Jefferson somehow managing to push the U.S. closer to war while claiming neutrality, and you’ve got a presidency that was anything but consistent.

They explore the importance of trading within a personalized system, how to avoid the traps of overtrading, and using trend breaks as powerful entry points. Forcing people out of their own country can be considered a war crime under international law. The Fourth Geneva Convention and Additional Protocol I explicitly prohibit the deportation or transfer of civilians from an occupied territory, unless there are compelling military reasons, or the security of the civilians involved demands it. This prohibition is also reflected in the Statute of the International Criminal Court, which states that the deportation or transfer of the population of an occupied territory constitutes a war crime in international armed conflicts.
Forced displacement can have severe consequences for individuals and communities, affecting their lives, health, and well-being. International law provides numerous safeguards against forced displacement, and efforts are made to prevent and mitigate its adverse effects.
Lots of weird and wonderful records this week as usual featuring some cuts from the Allen Lowe compilation Turn Me Loose White Man. Tiny Bradshaw rocks up a blues number, we'll hear from a 1930s Mississippi barn dance group, Patsy Montana is a rodeo sweetheart, we'll hear an early record from Bo Diddley and a record made using a diddley bow. Ronnie Douglas will bring us back to Earth with his latest, then it's more rockabilly, blues and rock 'n' roll including the obligatory record with Mickey Baker on it.

So on this week’s episode, we are putting the focus on the work we do along side numerous people attempting to speak the unspoken truth of war.
In the first half hour, we spend time talking to Yusuf Omar of Seen.tv. He is a former war correspondent working for CNN who came to understand the unique contributions that Palestinians can make in Gaza by telling their own stories with a cell phone camera, and at a time when Palestinian journalists are dying by the scores in order to communicate to the outside world. He is to present films by Bisan Owda and Ahmad Ghunaim to audiences across Canada and the United States in the coming week.
This interview is followed by one with Ramsey Zeid, a Palestinian-Canadian activist in Winnipeg, talking about aspects of the Genocide in Palestine not spoken about in mainstream media outlets, including the challenges and the rewards of activism.
Finally, two former guests, Canadian peace activists, Glenn Michalchuk and Tamara Lorincz, speak about some of the more persistent lies and persistent activism to turn the tide toward a more stable and just world.
This show is part of radio station CKUW’s Fundrive, encouraging listeners to contribute what they can to keep an island of truth-telling less isolated in an ocean of propaganda.
