Takes on the World: James Phillips on US Responsibility for Honduras Crisis, Segment 1

Breaking through the mix of a national media blackout, James Phillips exposes the role that the Obama and Trump administrations, and Hillary Clinton, in particular, have played in the destabilization of Honduras, the coup against Pres. Miguel Zelaya in 2009, and the fraudulent elections of 2013 and 2017 that have helped maintain the corrupt regime the corrupt regimes of Porfirio Lobo (2010-2013) and Juan Orlando Hernandez (2013to the present) in power. Phillips describes the actions taken by Zelaya, a businessman, to benefit the Honduran people, which led him to be seen as a traitor to his class by his fellow businessmen and his outreach to Cuba and to Hugo Chavez in Venezuela was more than the US would tolerate in what it considers its “backyard.” When it comes to the Americas, Phillips points out, there is no fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans. Phillips traces the history between the two countries in which Honduras plays the role of a colony as well as a key staging ground for military activities in the Americas such as support for the Contras against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. From an economic standpoint, Honduras, a country, rich in natural resources, has been a serial victim of the extraction of those resources for the benefit of private and foreign investors which has been a major factor in the depressed state of the nation’s economy which feeds the very violence which has caused thousands of Hondurans to flee to the US where they have said whatever happens to them at the border is better than living in fear in their country In the days before, after and during the 10th anniversary of the June 28, 2009 coup, there were major protests throughout the country which the US media largely ignored while, for example, NPR carried multiple stories about protests in Sudan as if what happens in that country some relevance to a US audience (which would have a hard time following either country on the map. JB) And much more!

Takes on the World: Jeff Blankfort on Iran, China, Hezbollah, Israel Occupied USG, Segment 1

I begin with a reference to Marianne Williamson calling out her fellow Democrat presidential aspirants for not talking about US responsibility for border migrant crisis and chide Bernie Sanders for not using the moment to expose Obama & Trump administration complicity in supporting the coup and fraudulent elections in Honduras. I go from there to Iran, reporting on British marine seizure of Iranian oil tanker head to Syria and Iran threat to retaliate and from there to describing how Chinese oil tankers have found a way to fill their tankers with Iranian oil through a “disappearing then reappearing” operation. Next, I report on Israel’s continuing propaganda war on Hezbollah, assisted by US media, and the application of sanctions on three members of Hezbollah, including two who serve in the Lebanese parliament by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury. I identify that office as an agency of the Israel government, pointing out that the present head of that office is an Israeli and that every key official that has served there is either an American or Israeli Zionist zealot. I go from there to Nancy Pelosi’s capitulation to a caucus of reactionary Democrats and Republicans in the House, the Problem Solvers Caucus, in approving the Senate Bill on border funding which contains nothing to alleviate or improve inhuman conditions on the US border. I finish by announcing an upcoming worldwide “Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps” on Friday, July 12 and where people from Mendocino Co. will be vigiling.

The Michael Slate Show: July 4 Burn the Flag Coast-to-Coast; The Freeway 9--Why We Blocked the Freeway; "Anne" New Play On Anne Frank , Segment 1

1 week 1 day ago
July 4 - Imagine a World Without America - Burn the Flag from Coast to Coast. In Washington DC: At 5pm on July 4th, Joey Johnson, along with Carl Dix and members of the Revolution Club and the National Revolution Tour burned an American flag within sight of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, in opposition to Trump, his “Salute to America”, and everything he and America stand for. At the US Mexico border in San Ysidro: The Los Angeles Revolution Club held an “Imagine a world without America” ceremony at 4 pm on July 4, at the border wall in San Ysidro. We'll get a report from Carl Dix, a representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party. The Freeway 9 - This Fight Is Not Over! The Stakes Are Great for All Those Who Hate This Regime, and Who Wish for a Better World The trial in Los Angeles of two of the Freeway 9, arrested for protesting the fascist Trump/Pence regime and calling for massive nonviolent sustained mobilization to drive out this regime, just ended in a mistrial. A mistrial, in this instance, is a “hung jury” that could not agree on any of the charges. This was an important victory, bringing forward determination of some on the jury to refuse to convict these people of any crime. At the same time, this fight is not over. We'll hear from the two defendants, Alex and Chantelle, on why they did what they did, and from Annie Day, from the Freeway 9 Defense Committee and The Bob Avakian Institute, on the context of the case and what the Defense Committee will be doing going forward. Anne, A New Play, a unique play by Dutch playwrights Jessica Durlacher and Leon de Winter, reframes Anne's story through an unconventional lens. In this new adaptation, 13-year-old Anne Frank imagines her life as a young woman - safe in a post-war world. When she meets a publisher who expresses interest in her story, She looks back on the two years she spent hidden away with her family during the Nazi regime. We spoke with two of the actors, Ava Lalezarzadeh (Anne) and Rob Brownstein (Otto Frank), as well as director Eve Brandstein.

Taylor Report: On American Orders, UK Pirates Capture Iranian Vessel Off Gibraltar, Segment 1

1 week 1 day ago
Gibraltar is a British Outpost, commanding the entrance/exit to the Mediterranean sea. It rightly belongs to Spain, but the British won't give it back. And they don't trust Spain to do their bidding at this strategic spot. But when the US commands, the UK obeys. So British marines took over an Iranian vessel, in complete violation of international law. Empires can't change their habits. Iran, Russia, China and other self-respecting states are no longer trifling in their response.

Sea Change Radio: Mark Coleman on Mindfulness and Nature, Segment 1

1 week 1 day ago
The last time you went for a little walk around the neighborhood, did you take a few moments to drink in the natural beauty around you, even in the most unlikely of places, like a timid squirrel, a blossoming tree or a unique cloud formation or did you choose to zone out with a podcast, talk on the phone or text someone? This week’s guest on Sea Change Radio wants you to try your best next time to be more attentive of your surroundings - and, who knows, it might just become a habit. We speak to author and nature meditation teacher, Mark Coleman, about his new book From Suffering To Peace, and the steps we can take to appreciate our environment in hopes that we can become happier, kinder and better stewards of our planet.

Radio Curious: Rodolfo Gomez – A Walk in the Costa Rican Rain Forest, Segment 1

1 week 1 day ago
On the eastern slope of the Continental Divide, about an hour’s drive east of San Jose, Costa Rica, is the Rain Forest Aerial Tram, a tramway that travels through, above and below the rain forest canopy. The rain forest canopy is home to more diverse forms of flora and fauna than anywhere else in the known universe. Rodolfo Gomez, trained as an architect, has found his calling as a tour guide in Central America and specifically Costa Rica. My daughter Molly and I met with Rodolfo in the rain forest, near the aerial tram and recorded this program in April of 1995. Originally Broadcast: June 20, 1995

TUC Radio: Jane Anne Morris: Defying Corporations, Defining Democracy , Segment 2

1 week 1 day ago
Long before the 2010 Supreme Court Decision in Citizens United ruled that corporations as persons are entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government, Jane Anne Morris had written, spoken out, and campaigned on the decades long efforts of US corporations to use the Supreme Court to expand and solidify their power. She likens the US Supreme Court to the infamous unelected panels that today, in international trade, are empowered to overrule the laws of entire countries - even the size of Canada and China - when they are putting restrictions on corporate trade, or have the audacity to protect the environment and labor. Jane Anne Morris was one of the principal members of the Program on Corporations, Law and Democracy (POCLAD.org), a think tank of about a dozen individuals, co-founded by Ward Morehouse and Richard Grossman just before the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. Recorded one year before Citizens United this interview reflects Jane Anne Morris research of the previous decade. She was interviewed by Tom Lewiston on Network X in Seattle on January 10, 2009 A link to this interview on film is on Jane Anne Morris died on May 28th, 2019, in Madison, Wisconsin of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. She was about to complete a book on the role of the US Supreme Court in dismantling democracy. We hope that someone will be able to put together her notes.
