Building Bridges: Nurses Blast Government And Hospital Readiness For Coronavirus , Segment 1

1 week 3 days ago
Nurses Blast Government And Hospital Readiness For Coronavirus with Deborah Burger, practicing nurse and co-president of National Nurses United and president o the California Nurses Association (CAN). CNA now represents over 57,000 nurses in 164 facilities across California. With CNA, California nurses have led the nation in ground-breaking patient advocacy legislation such as staffing ratios and whistle-blower protections. In the midst of Covid-19, the union National Nurses United surveyed its members and found they were lacking the equipment, training and clear guidelines they need right now. The nurses fighting the spread of coronavirus in response to the survey have unleashed a flood of criticism on the federal government and their employers, saying they have been left poorly equipped to care for their patients and protect themselves amid the outbreak. Members of the union said they have faced shifting guidelines and a shortage of supplies as the tally of known infections has increased. They called on the Centers for Disease Control to quickly increase testing for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, and demanded that federal officials implement emergency standards for hospitals and clinics around the country. The CDC has been behind the ball at almost every step of the way, said Jane Thomason, an industrial hygienist for the union
