Takes on the World: Danny Sjursen: Exposes Liberal Hypocrisy, Foreign Policy Failures, Segment 1

1 week 2 days ago
Today I spoke with US Army Major Danny Sjursen about two of his most recent articles for TomDispatch and republished on other sites that deal with one of the most critical problems facing the country today; that in their intense hatred of President Trump, the liberals of the Democratic party and the media that supports it have abandoned all semblance of critical thinking and have far outdistanced the Republican hawks in their support for Washington’s enduring wars, a position that has historical antecedents on the issues of war and peace that are unflattering to the party. The articles and their links: “The ‘Adults’ in the Room Are the Problem.” https://www.thenation.com/article/the-adults-in-the-room-are-the-problem/ and “Hypocrisy Without Bounds: The Tragedy of Liberal Foreign Policy,” published online on January 8: https://original.antiwar.com/danny_sjursen/2019/01/07/hypocrisy-without-bounds-the-tragedy-of-liberal-foreign-policy/ “If anyone else were president,” he writes and elaborates, “the ‘liberals’ would be celebrating. After all, pulling American soldiers out of a couple of failing, endless wars seems like a ‘win’ for progressives,” and he goes on from there to demonstrate the current apparently limitless hypocrisy of the Democrats which can spell defeat for them in 2020 if they don’t get their heads on straight and push into the shadows, the onetime “baby boomers” like Joe Biden who can only spell disaster for the party if chosen as their candidate. Sjursen expresses his astonishment at the ease in which individuals on the liberal left who would ordinarily be expected to be against America’s unjust wars, embrace the generals who have encouraged and led them as “the adults in the room” who they have been counting on to restrain President Trump from doing something crazy which, in this instance, appears to be withdrawing US troops from Syria and Afghanistan. After listening to Sjursen and reading his articles which I consider a MUST, one must ask, “Who are the crazy ones?

Takes on the World: Jeff Blankfort:News/Op:Senate v. BDS, China & Israel, Bolton, Segment 1

1 week 2 days ago
I begin today’s program by referring to the first bill introduced in the new Senate session by Marco Rubio, S. 1, which includes a number of items benefiting Israel, his being the Combatting BDS Act that would make it illegal and subject to fine any US business that refuses to do business with Israel, being more or less similar to anti BDS laws that have been passed in 26 states. Because of the government shutdown, the Democrats, even those who will support the bill, have vowed not to vote on anything until the government re-opens. I then mention how Palestinian American congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib, is being called anti-Semitic by the Jewish political establishment for suggesting that the senators supporting the bill should study the US constitution which was construed by said Jews as an accusation of “dual loyalty.” She had said no such thing, but that was clearly the case, assuming they had any loyalty to the US in the first place. What has not been mentioned in the media is that the bill would also make into law the $38 billion arms gift to Israel that was approved by Obama in 2016. Such codifying would make it difficult if not impossible for any other president over the next decade to tamper with it. I suggest this is desired by Israel so it won’t be penalized by Washington for its actions in the international arena which the White House wouldn’t find pleasing. One example of that is a deal that has been made with Israel and a Chinese company whose major owner is the Chinese government to take over and run the port of Haifa for 25 years, beginning in 2021. The US Navy which has routinely used the port to dock and participate in joint exercises with the Israeli navy is not pleased with the deal. The story has only been reported in the Israeli press which also noted that John Bolton had raised the issue with Netanyahu. I then go into some aspects of Bolton’s background establishing him, quite openly, as an Israeli agent. From there I go to a quote from Mike Pompeo on US goals for Iran, democratic freedoms, then point out that this year will mark the 65th anniversary of the CIA organized coup against Iran’s democratically government and point out it was more devastating for Iran than Pearl Harbor or 911 were for the US. Finally, I report that the US government shutdown might halt funding of the Palestinian Authority’s security forces that collaborate with Israel and the unintentional pitfall of the Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act that was passed last Fall by voice vote in both houses which would allow US citizens to sue any entity that receives aid from the US if one of its members harms a US citizen. The USG is trying to find a way to change it to keep the PA from continuing its collaboration with Israel.

Sea Change Radio: Catherine Homsey: Conscious Shopping, Segment 1

1 week 3 days ago
The average US resident heads out to the grocery store 1.6 times a week, and over the course of a year uses well over 1,000 plastic shopping bags there - bags which, on average, are used for a mere 15 minutes but will stick around on the earth for hundreds of years. This week’s guest on Sea Change Radio, Catherine Homsey, is fed up with the status quo and has changed her food shopping habits to better reflect her values. She gives us insight into the plastic habit of food retailers, talks about what to do about it, and tells us of her particular annoyance with Trader Joe’s, the popular grocer that was once her favorite.

The Alembic Files: Cato, Letter No. 3, Segment 1

1 week 3 days ago
Letter No. 3 is Cato's message to his countrymen and women that the Constitution would make the Colonies homogenous. He alludes to the recent Shays' Rebellion in Massachusetts. Cato contrasts the climate, temperaments and motivations of the Northern and Southern states. Cato likens the psychology of the citizenry to an example of basic physics. Cato makes the argument that the young Confederation is far too vast to be ruled by a centralized authority, and that the people's independence will be now threatened even more than during the recent revolution.
