Percussion from South America's Pacific coast; now that Chad has been added to Trump's travel ban, let's hear some music from that threatening (?) country; digging deep into older Cuban music; more dancefloor gems from South Africa.

3 months 3 weeks ago
On this week's global research News Hour we take a look at the recent independence vote in Iraqi Kurdistan and the overwhelming endorsement of separation from the rest of iraq and what it means for Iraq, the larger region and the world, and whether it is the Kurdish people or larger imperial powers that benefit from the overall situation. We'll get a historical perspective from PROFESSOR Henry Heller, we'll get the view from Nametuwllah Emre a Canadian of Kurdish extraction, and we'll hear from veteran foreign affairs journalist Joe Lauria who was in the capital city of the Kurdistan Region during the referendum vote Who will offer his thoughts about activities on the ground, and the motivations of the larger powers.

The Thunderbolt: TB 170929 Greatest Strikes - FBI Special 2X, Segment 1

3 months 3 weeks ago
This week’s archive radio show features one of the first Thunderbolts that I ever produced — and in fact this was recorded before I even started calling it the Thunderbolt. (It was called the Oly Oly Action Alert back then.) (See why I changed it?) This piece is also very special because it is a 40-minute rant aimed directly at the FBI, and was recorded and aired on the same day directly in response to an armed invasion that our brave Fibbies were conducting in the Olympia area at the time seeking some people who broke some windows up in Seattle. I kid you not. This was recorded when I still produced these things by placing my stereo speakers behind my head and when I wanted to emphasize the music I would hold the mic next to the speaker and when I wanted to emphasize the narrative I would hold it in front of my mouth. There is no ‘editing’ using this technique and frankly sound quality on the music kind of sucks — but I am airing this piece again anyway because it is in many ways an amazing piece and also so listeners can sense the progression that my show has taken over the years. Be prepared to learn about the complete lack of respect for the law that exists amongst the federal law enforcement community.

Out of the Woods: Out of the Woods - Show #391 - 10-7-17, Segment 6

3 months 3 weeks ago
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
