Radio Curious: Mike & Halle Brady – Life in Vladivostok, Russia, Segment 1

1 día 7 horas ago
Vladivostok, Russia, at the very eastern end of Siberia, is a city of about 800,000 people. It is the same distance north of the equator as is central Oregon and Rome, Italy. It’s close to the border of China and North Korea. This city was closed to everyone, including Russians, until the early 1990s. Halle Brady and Mike Brady, formerly of Potter Valley, California, spent two years teaching in Vladivostok and, in this program, we shared their experiences there. Mike Brady recommends “Lenin’s Tomb,” by David Remnick. Halle Brady recommends “Gates of November,” by Chiam Potok. Originally Broadcast: July 3, 1998

Donald Drumpf Theatre: Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 176 Another Day, Segment 1

1 día 7 horas ago
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 6 months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

TUC Radio: Anand Giridharadas in Conversation: On Wealth VS Democracy - Part ONE of TWO, Segment 2

2 días 12 horas ago
There are very few writers who went on a book tour - expecting to be done in 3 months - and 2 years later are still in high demand by TV and radio talk shows, universities, high level think tanks, and festivals. Even the Cornona Virus did not slow him down and on May 19, 2020, Anand Giridharadas was interviewed, from his home, for the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, Connecticut. In his book, Giridharadas asked hard questions about corporate philanthropy: Why, for example, should our gravest problems be solved by the unelected upper crust instead of the public institutions that the rich erode by lobbying and dodging taxes? Elizabeth Nearing is the curator of ideas for the the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. The interviewer is John Dankosky.

Sea Change Radio: Barbara Freese: Industrial Strength Denial, Segment 1

2 días 13 horas ago
The next time you hear the White House assert that up is down and down is up, consider what paved the way for this template of mendacity. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with environmental attorney and author Barbara Freese about her new book, “Industrial Strength Denial.” Freese takes us on a historical tour of the havoc that big business has wreaked on the planet and on truth itself. We discuss the climate change denial movement and how it relates to the Trump Administration’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the pernicious legacy of leaded gasoline.

Taylor Report: Don't let "Five Eyes" block international co-operation, Segment 1

3 días 2 horas ago
Phil asks if it is possible to bring the nations of the world together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Apparently not, as long as the "Five Eyes" back the USA in its attempt to slough off its responsibility to support the WHO. "Five Eyes" is "an anglophone intelligence alliance." [Wikipedia]. Canada and Australia were part of a US-backed effort to damage China and the WHO in two ways: 1) Trying to criticize China's handling of the pandemic, and 2) arguing for the representation of Taiwan at the WHO. The Canadian-Australian attempts flopped, because the rest of the WHA membership weren't interested in creating problems, but instead in finding common solutions in the COVID-19 crisis. The US has been regularly abrogating its international agreements and treaties. Trump's defunding of the WHO is part of a pattern of undermining multilateral organizations and international co-operation.
