The Sonic Cafe: Sonic Cafe #183/Spy GUYZ! A Party in the CIA, Segment 1

2 meses 3 semanas ago
Sonic Café, with Klaus Waldeck’s remake of the James Bond classic You Only Live Twice, so ahh welcome I’m Scott Clark and this is episode 183. This time the Sonic Café drifts into the dark world of spies, detectives and PI’s as we bring you another episode of Spy Guyz. We’ve uncovered our way out music mix from 50 years. Listen for Todd Rundgren, Portishead, Tom Waits, Lalo Schifrin, Gary Numan and more. Heck we’ll even join Weird Al Yankovic at a Party in the CIA. Then the Sonic Café presents another classic movie moment… from Good Will Hunting we’ll eavesdrop on that time the NSA tried to recruit Will, then comedian John Mulaney explains how Law and Order SVU gets to say about anything on TV without getting censored, and describes what his favorite SVU episode would look like. Oh and a huge Sonic Café welcome to Double Helix DNA Search, our newest sponsor. Call Double Helix DNA Search today and find out who REALLY is your daddy. All that and more just ahead as we creep into the foggy underworld of Spy Guyz, this time from that little café on the often foggy Pacific coast, we’re the Sonic Café.

Donald Drumpf Theatre: Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 170 Surprises, Segment 1

2 meses 3 semanas ago
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 11 months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Radio Curious: Michael Gurian – Let Boys Be Boys, Segment 1

2 meses 3 semanas ago
The Wonder of Boys & A Fine Young Man Boys do not have an easy time growing up and maturing in our complex world these days. The same standard of behavior is frequently expected of boys and girls, often without recognizing the special and different needs of boys. Testosterone is a prime mover in the shaping of boys’ behavior resulting in their special and different needs. This is a two-part program from the archives of Radio Curious with Michael Gurian, the author of a 1997 book entitled, “The Wonder of Boys: What Parents, Mentors and Educators Can Do To Shape Boys Into Exceptional Men.” I spoke with Michael Gurian in January of 1998 from his home in Spokane, Washington. Michael Gurian recommends “Sex on the Brain,” by Deborah Blum & “Beyond the Birds and the Bees,” Beverly Engle. Originally Broadcast: January 23, 1998 & January 30, 1998

Taylor Report: Fight the propaganda that alienates us, Segment 1

2 meses 3 semanas ago
Experiencing a pandemic and an imperialist system in vertigo, workers can look to a poem by B. Brecht entitled, "In Praise of Learning." It repeatedly says, "You must take over the leadership." Phil emphasizes the need to fight the propaganda that tries to alienate us from countries that resist US hegemony. These countries, including Syria, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and especially China, which has shown the way in fighting Covid-19, are drawing the wrath of frightened Western leaders.

Sea Change Radio: The Muckraker: Jared Yates Sexton, Segment 1

2 meses 3 semanas ago
As most of us have been cooped up doing our best to keep the pandemic at bay, the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has decided that his job is to make daily TV appearances wherein he flouts science, deludes the public, brags about made-up accomplishments, and bullies members of the White House press pool who deign to ask him straightforward questions. It’s just another day in this truth-is-stranger-than-fiction reality we are all doing our darndest to get through. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with political analyst and author Jared Yates Sexton about a Republican Party that has chosen to be led by a malignant narcissist, a situation that has only gotten worse in the midst of an unprecedented global health crisis. We learn about what Yates refers to as the “Republican Death Cult,” discuss the effect this party has had on the climate movement, and get a glimpse of the struggle over universal access to the ballot box.
