New World Notes: #635 -- Howard Zinn: The Power to Change (2), Segment 1

3 meses ago
A fine talk by Progressive historian Howard Zinn (d. 2010), delivered in 2008. It deals with key themes in Zinn's writing (and social activism): social justice, war, economic power, the anti-democratic behavior of governments (including ours), propaganda, and the power of the people to organize and compel justice. Part Two (this week) focuses on this country's extravagant military expenditures and "absurd" wars. . . . (Contined under "Credits")

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/assembly-of-silence-radio-hour/id1443449419 https://silentassembly.libsyn.com/ The Assembly of Silence is a freewheeling talk show orbiting around spiritual and philosophical concerns - with an occasional garnish of science, utilitarian and quasi-objective pragmatism, dreamy and gleeful idealism, health tips and absurdity.

WHFM: Herman's Radio & Record Room #3, Segment 1

3 meses ago
My father was a radio repairman, country & western cowboy singer, and rustic guitar player. He performed in the late 1930’s on live radio before he enlisted in World War II as a radio-telephone technician. This show is my homage to him. My father was a radio engineer and electrician; he loved the other side of radio as well – the listening side – it kept him company during many lonesome nights in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s & 60's. From my imagination to your ears – it’s WHFM – vintage music & radio shows from mid century America. This is music I believe he would have enjoyed.
