Building Bridges: An African-American & Latinx History of the U.S. & the Ongoing Struggle Against White Supremacy/White Nationalism , Segment 1

1 semana 3 días ago
An African-American & Latinx History of the U.S. & the Ongoing Struggle Against White Supremacy/White Nationalism Paul Ortiz is professor of history at the University of Florida and is Director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program. Hes authored Remembering Jim Crow, Emancipation Betrayed: The Hidden History of Black Organizing and White Violence in Florida from Reconstruction to the Bloody Election of 1920, and the epic An African American and Latinx History of the United States. Paul Ortiz provides the essential framework for understanding how freedom struggles dating back to the eighteenth century inform todays entrenched inequality and systemic racism across diasporas. Prof. Ortiz by reconceptualizing American has dug deep to reveal the roots of white supremacy and white nationalism and by unearthing them he offers proposals to weed them out root and branch. Ortiz also excites and stimulates as he recounts the tools that were forged by the freedom fighters he writes about whose sojourn left footprints for us to follow to complete the journey towards realizing the promise of democracy
