Latin Waves : is Capitalism Christian Dr Robert Jensen, Segment 1

1 semana 3 días ago
Latin waves host Sylvia Richardson speaks with Robert Jensen about our “dead culture” of state Fundamentalism. Jensen says that absolute beliefs that ignore life’s complexities are used to support the politics of empire. He gives examples of these, including market fundamentalism (capitalism), moral fundamentalism (of spreading ‘democracy’), or technological fundamentalism – the belief that technology will solve the environmental problems it causes. Jensen claims that capitalist fundamentalism is in fact incompatible with Christianity, which. like many the other great religions, are calls to recognize the universal human family. He describes alternative types of power that can lead to a hopeful future.

1 semana 5 días ago
Georgia On My Mind and Changing the Landscape for Black Power! with Cliff Albright, Cofounder/Ex. Dir. Black Voters Matter Fund, writer, and radio talk show host Cliff Albright is a cofounder of Black Voters Matter Fund (and BVM Capacity Building Institute) which builds community and organizational capacity related to Black voting power. Cliff and the BVM team have been traveling throughout seven southern states in The Blackest Bus in America energizing voters and exposing voter suppression. Black Voters Matter aims to "increase power in our communities," they say. And this year, the organization is doing just that through "We Got Power," a bus tour spanning Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina and California. Its purpose is to connect folks and remind people in the Black communities that they have power, and they have power to stop those that use that power against them."

New World Notes: #663 -- COVID-19 and the End of Capitalism, Segment 1

1 semana 6 días ago
Capitalism is a fatally flawed economic system that cannot be made to work well, argues economist Richard D. Wolff. One fatal flaw is its instability: for the past 300 years, capitalist economies have crashed every 4-7 years. We are now in the third crash of the 21st century, the worst since the 1920s. The poor US response to COVID--and the right-on-schedule crash COVID triggered--make the system's failures undeniable, Wolff argues. Wolff is in fine form in these selections from an interview (of 9-15-2020) with the Progressive Canadian video blogger, Mexie. (Cont'd)
