Live in-studio, the South Asian Community News Collective interviews Harjap Grewal and Harsha Walia, activists and organizers based in Vancouver, active with groups like No One Is Illegal and the South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy (SANSAD).

During this wide-ranging interview, Harjap and Harsha share their perspectives organizing within the South Asian community in Vancouver, anti-poverty work in Vancouver's downtown Eastside, confronting the "model minority" syndrome, the role of Canadian aid agencies and NGOs in India, organizing in solidarity with indigenous sovereignty struggles, and much more.

HARJAP GREWAL works as an anti-poverty advocate at the Downtown Eastside Residents Association and has been active in Vancouver with groups like South Asian Youth Alliance, No One is Illegal-Vancouver, Stopwar.ca, South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy, and various other anti-war and anti-capitalist movements.

HARSHA WALIA is an activist and writer, currently active with groups including No One is Illegal Vancouver, South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy, Vancouver Status of Women, and Coalition for Justice in the Middle East. Her writing has appeared in the Georgia Straight, Zmag, Leftturn and others.
