National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, Segment 1

2 semanas 3 días ago
This event, one of several but elusive "public hearings", likely to justify new legislation from Congress for conscripting youth into the military or publicly funded corporate purposed nonprofit training programs, all euphemistically branded "service" to the nation. This hearing was themed "Pathways to Employment". Panelist selected by the commission work with Veterans and prominently African-American youth on Chicago's south and west sides through NGOs. One is a commentator on the most widely listened to radio station in Chicago's black community, WVON 1690AM. The audience of, aprox 40, was composed of people representing NGOs seeking additional funding for their "good works" and opponents to compulsory registration, selective service, nationalism and US militarism. Several traveled from out of state to attend and testify; one even reminding the Commission that the most recent U.S. wars were based on lies and deception. Praise for military "service" was regularly expressed from the front of the room, as if mindless and amoral obedience is not its subtext. Witness the experience of Chelsea Manning and James Snowden and the venom they received from the government for what in reality was heroic and selfless service. Funding for citizens and the commons in what still claims to be a democratic republic experiences the "Israeli diet", while the Pentagon and Death Enabeling Corporations engorge themselves on public money at a vomitorium known as "national defense". Intro and panel 0:0:0 - 1:04:16 Q&A and Public Comments 1:04:16 - 1:47:46 Introduction: Debra Wada, Vice-Chair and Commissioner Remarks: Evelyn Sanguinetti, Lieutenant Governor of Illinois Panelists: Leah Eggers, Program Manager of Youth WorkforceDevelopment, Youth Guidance: Americacorps Alum: and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Ruthie Moore, Contributor, WVON 1690 AM Eli Williamson, Co-Founder/Board President, Leave No Veteran Behind

Back in the USSR: Settler-Colonialism and Genocide in Canada, Segment 2

2 semanas 4 días ago
Siegfried Barazov and Brendan Campisi discuss the brutal reality of settler-colonialism in Canada. From Residential Schools that kidnapped and brutalized aboriginal children to the Reserve system that reduced their peoples to desperate poverty, from pipelines built on stolen land to hollow apologies from a government that continues to run roughshod over treaty rights and the self-determination of indigenous peoples, colonial genocide was and continues to be the order of the day in "British North America".

Taylor Report: Sanctions Against Syria Are Illegal and Destructive War by Other Means, Segment 1

2 semanas 4 días ago
Sanctions are not very visible or alarming when viewed from abroad, but their effects are equivalent to military intervention. Stephen Gowans discusses how the sanctions on Syria are illegal and incredibly harmful, despite the pretexts employed by the Anglo-American coalition. The U.S. has subverted rules regarding sanctions, and hardly anyone is brave enough to publicly stand up to them. Gowans ties the sanctions regime to Washington's long war on Syria, partly motivated by Syria's socialist policies. Syria has the right under the United Nations to pursue its own form of development. Meanwhile, countries who are allied to Saudi Arabia have the temerity to sit in judgement and call Syria a regime. The overall Western intervention contributes to the refugee crisis.

Weekend of People Power: Welcome Home Rally for Survivors of Chicago Police Torture, Segment 2

2 semanas 5 días ago
Speakers and performers listed in notes. Program to welcome home people convicted and imprisoned - some sentenced to death - as a result of the systemic use of torture by the Chicago Police Department to obtain confessions. Torture and framing of Black and Latino youth by corrupt and criminal cops took place over a 40 year period and still continues, tainting the entire department as perpetrators are protected by the Fraternal Order of the Police, and a code of silence rarely broken. Chicago's merchant and money elites prop up the dismal politicians who have refused exercise their power to change the too long existing order. This program celebrates 45 years of Unity, Organization and Struggle in the fight for justice, human rights and an end to the impunity that has existed under the corrupt political power structure that Chicago suffers.. Survivors of police torture, cultural performers, a little history on how the United Nations was brought to bare when the racist Mayor and States Attorney refused to prosecute criminal cops , and an acknowledgement of the unique women, the founding members of the Alliance, precede the key note by Angela Davis.
