Latin Waves : interviews Bruce Gagnon from the Global Network, Segment 1

1 semaine 3 jours ago
Latin Waves host Stuart Richardson interviews Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space and publisher of a blog called Organizing Notes. We speak about the ongoing US coup attempts in Venezuela and how this is causing global insecurity with Russia, how many nations and the corporate media are red baiting to demonize the public towards Russia. How this may be connected to resources now becoming available in the Arctic due to climate change, this maybe the area of future conflicts. We speak about how the Global Network is sending a peace delegation to Russia to try and calm tensions. And most importantly how we can come together regarding climate change.

Racism in America's Military, Segment 1

1 semaine 3 jours ago
Twenty year career veteran of the United States Air Force with a specialty in logistics, Natasha Erskine, having reached a rank of Senior NCO, speaks about her experience, the awards and advancements she received, her coming to terms with the institutional racism she encountered in her military career and how she had to fight to receive her retirement benefits after reporting the white nationalists, racist and bigots she found herself working with during her last deployment, just ahead of eligibility for retirement. She speaks of how the military regularly betrays minorities by rifting them out after doctoring their service records. She speaks of the trauma to self and friends that the multiple foreign deployments, required for career advancement, in a culture that discourages seeking mental health counseling, that placed women at risk of rape by servicemen and contractors alike, on the U.S. bases where they were deployed once the US declared it's "War On Terror". Though always "behind the wire" she began to recognize her roll in the violence and killing as an enabler and the connection between the military and policing in the United States following the killing of Michael Brown. The same equipment she was shipping from the battle fields of Iraq as surplus ended up in Ferguson, Missouri and eventually in her own community on the South side of Chicago. She now councils inner city Chicago high school students, whose career options have been narrowed by the racists efforts of Chicago's out going mayor Rahm Emanuel and other liberal Democrats who have pushed JROTC into certain schools, limiting career options and steering students toward the military; even instituting a program of "no diploma" unless one has enlisted in the military, has a job, is admitted to college or doing community service following graduation. The last question she answers address the campaign to demilitarize the Chicago Public Schools, demanding that it returns the skilled trades programs that it removed, programs and training that can provide realistic alternatives to the military.

The Alembic Files: Phantasms of Freedom, Part 9, Segment 1

1 semaine 4 jours ago
How well do we know the history of our nation? As for our Founders, what is fact? What is myth? While we have been told we are free, we face an increasing onslaught of laws, edicts, and proclamations governing our lives as American citizens. We have been told that “we need to get our Constitution back.” Do we truly need to do that? We are, during every election cycle, given a “choice.” But is it a real choice? Or a Hobson’s choice? Were our Founders the godlike, towering figures we were taught? Were they above reproach? Or were they human beings, subject to the same avarice, temptations and lust we all are? What were their motivations in starting this country? Were they benign in nature, inspired to offer their fellow countrymen “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?” Or were there other instincts at play? Was the Constitution truly designed to be the bulwark of freedom? Why were the Articles of Confederation jettisoned? Who were the Anti-Federalists? Why did they get such short shrift by history? What was the worth of the Founders? Were they Everymen? Or rich elites? The answers, when explored from an “unofficial” vantage point, may surprise you. Listen along as Eric the Blacksmith discusses American history with Al Aric and Theo. Current events are interspersed. Explore the nooks and crannies of suppressed information as the book “Hologram of Liberty” by Kenneth Royce is reviewed and its bibliography examined.

New World Notes: #579 -- Chris Hedges: The Algebra of Revolution, Part 2 (R), Segment 1

1 semaine 4 jours ago
Part 2 of the hard-hitting speech by journalist/essayist Chris Hedges. It's about the corruption of "the System," the ever-increasing power of "the one percent," the betrayal of the people by the Democratic and Republican parties, the century-long crackdown on dissent, and our increasingly meaningless national politics--in which our nation's real and pressing problems are seldom even mentioned--let alone debated, let alone put to a vote. (Continued under "Credits.")

This Week In Palestine: Nancy and Hubert Murray report back on their recent trip to Palestine, Segment 1

1 semaine 5 jours ago
Today our entire program is devoted to a reportback from a trip to Palestine by Nancy and Hubert Murray. They spoke recently at Boston University, along with Reverend Mariama White Hammond, whom we will hear next week along with a very rich question and answer period. Nancy Murray has traveled to Palestine-Israel some 18 times since 1988, which explains why her observations and analysis are so well credentialed. She has led several delegations, including this one, as well as the first one our host ever went on in 2001. Nancy is now retired but for 25 years she was the Education Director at the ACLU of Massachusetts. Nancy's husband Hubert is an architect who focuses on environmental concerns. He presently is engaged in a project where he is designing a kindergarten to be built at the Lagee Center in the Aida Refugee camp in Bethlehem.

Building Bridges: Israel's War Against the Palestinians and It's Exportation of Weapons of Global Pacification , Segment 1

1 semaine 5 jours ago
Israel's War Against the Palestinians and It's Exportation of Weapons of Global Pacification with Jeff Halper, is the head of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. He is the author of War Against the People: Israel, The Palestinians and Global Pacification We the people must break the old taboo on US-Israeli relations and Washington's permanent acquiescence in Israel's illegal colonization of Arab land. We must condemn Israel's actions ' unrelenting violations of international law, continued occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, home demolitions and land confiscations. We must cry out at the treatment of Palestinians at checkpoints, the routine searches of their homes and restrictions on their movements. Americans should question the US government funds that have supported multiple hostilities and thousands of civilian casualties in Gaza, as well as the $38 billion the US government has pledged in military support to Israel. We must condemn Trumps recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and his recognition of Israel's claim to the Golan Heights. Governments today are waging a war against the people " whether securitization against asylum seekers in Fortress Europe, counterinsurgency in Afghanistan, or the subliminal war of policing and surveillance arising everywhere. And Israels contribution to this is key: exporting the high-tech weaponry, security systems and methods of pacification designed for and tested on the residents of Gaza, confined in the worlds largest open-air prison and Occupied Territories. Jeff Halper exposes these technologies of control, which blur the lines between the military, domestic security agencies and the police, and reveals Israels pivotal role in the worldwide suppression of human rights.
