When it comes to the public meeting, Arthur Scargill is one of the best performers around. He has it down to fine art. Perhaps this is down to his political up bringing as a member of the Young Communist League, where great stress was placed on the importance of making inspiring speeches. Or perhaps it has something to do with that fact that much maligned figure like Scargill needs the medium of the public meeting more than most to get across his points, and has thus has a particualr understanding of how to use public meetings to maximum effect.

During Noam Chomsky's recent visit to Ireland five members of the Workers Solidarity Movement met him over breakfast to talk over a range of issues from Palestine to the capitalist crisis to social partnership to Iran to Obama and the US Labour Movement. This week's Town Hall for Justice for Oscar Grant III covers BART's militarized police and PR since january 1st, Mehserle's change of venue, a Raider Nation meeting intended to refocus the justice movement, and rape of women from Richmond, California to the Congo. Pastor Gordon Humphreys of Olivet Baptist opens the Town Hall.

Topics covered in this week's Town Hall include the many fallacies behind the decision by Judge Jacobson to move Mehserle's trial for the murder of Oscar Grant III outside of Alameda County; the California Assembly hearing on BART's dysfunctional police force; a merchant credit system being set up in Oakland to keep city taxpayer dollars in Oakland; and environmental justice in the Bay Area. Reverend Henry Williams opens the Town Hall.

The Teachers spoke with Dave Marcus, about the process known as College Admissions, which generally misses the mark as a rite of passage, which it should be. Rather than SAT tutorials, teens should be finding themselves and self reflecting on the process of what it means to become an adult.
