***** Part 2 of 3 *** Part 2: 45 mins *****

Up until the morning of the disaster of the tsunami, the people of northern Indonesia in the area of Aceh, have been facing tremendous hardship and violence due to the militaries history of repression and violence against the non-violent movement for self-determination.

Now, our eyes are turned to this part of the globe, and as great contributions from many citizens goes into the relief effort in Aceh (and MAY be controlled in some strong measure by the military -- it remains to be seen), a turning point may be ahead.

Pressure from American people and the international community is seen as critical now and what will follow.

A brief and very informative history is noted, discussion of the situation there, and commentary on why and how the media must amplify and clarify the complete story of what is going on in Aceh.

Features speakers:

Munawar Zainal, founder, Acheh Center, Penn. Acehnese student activist, political refugee and victim of tsunami

Suraiaya IT, Chairwoman, International Forum for Aceh, based in New York. The only international Acehenese human rights group.

Allan Nairn, investigative journalist, The Nation.

Amy Goodman, journalist and host of Democracy Now!
