“Some Forgive”, Gaz Reynolds’s latest dance-pop video, has all the goods to post big numbers on peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks: a driving beat; an exotic backdrop (St. Petersburg, Russia); the requisite supermodel (Olya); and the sometimes mad, always creative genius of the artist-producer himself.
Distributed over major open P2P networks by Atlanta-based INTENT MediaWorks (www.intentmediaworks.com), the “Some Forgive” video racked up hundreds of thousands of downloads in a matter of days, building demand for the single’s October 24 release from the forthcoming “Orgazmic” album. And it’s really no surprise: Reynolds is a leader in the emerging pack of one-man digital music industries.
Need proof? Gaz writes, performs and records his own material, including previous hits “In This House” and the smash “Electric Kama Sutra”. He produces, directs, edits and stars in his own videos. And he sells CDs. Lots of them. Dubbed “A New Breed of Pop Star” by his in-house PR machine, the British-born, Miami-based Reynolds rules over Gaz World Dot Com (www.gazworld.com), his official web site; Gaz World International (www.gazworldinternational.com), his Miami party address; World Domination Records (www.worlddominationrecords.co.uk), his house label that provides management, production and promotion services to other artists; and “Gaz Wars”, his web-based, animated cartoon series.
Need more proof? Reynolds recruits online “Street Teams” to create digital grassroots campaigns via newsgroups, newsletters, message blasts and more. He works the commercial, college and web-based radio circuits. And we haven’t yet mentioned his webcasts, radio shows and dance club drop-bys.
“What’s even more remarkable is that Gaz has built on his brand by introducing his own file-sharing software to market his music,” commented Les Ottolenghi, INTENT MediaWorks president. The software is hosted by MusicDish Network (www.musicdish.net), a unique web portal for music professionals and fans.
“Gaz has an amazing grasp of the power of digital technologies to generate buzz, leverage exposure, launch airplay and sell product,” Ottolenghi continued. “He hasn’t just taken his music to the next level – he’s taken it to the digital edge. And his growing, worldwide fan base is right there with him.”
