For the past three years the Ojibwe Nation has been blockading Weyerhauser logging operations in Canada on their traditional land, in a place called Grassy Narrows in what most whites call Canada. Now some of the logs cut anyway have been found to be coming RIGHT HERE-to Winchester Homes!
On Wednesday July 14, Rainforest Action Network held a presentation on this situation at Al Fishaway Cafe-and revealed that Winchester Homes, a subsidiary of Weyerhauser, is using timber from Grassy narrows RIGHT HERE! They have called for action against Weyerhauser, including Winchester Homes. Winchester is one of the largest builders of suburban sprawl developments in this area.
Perhaps a few demos at newly-purchased homes built by Winchester would discourage buyers from even looking at these sprawl homes. If sucessful, such a campaign could force Weyerhauser to give up trying to steal timber from Grassy narrows, already made very difficult by blocades that have reduced but not eliminated the timber cut.
If it's good enough for animal-torturing vivisectionists at Huntingdon "Life" Sciences, it's good enough for timber barons who steal timber , land, and an entire way of life-from Native Americans, or First Nations as generally knwn in Canada. Indigenous hunters will kill fewer animals in an entire generation that clearcut logging will kill in just ONE season, folks-and nobody should have to move into the city and get a job at Wal-Mart because Weyerhauser ate their land!
