The Green Scare, alluding to the Red Scare of the 1940s and 50s, refers to recent actions taken by all branches of the U.S. government against the environmental and animal rights movements. The Green Scare specifically targets groups and individuals who support those movements. The Green Scare includes the SHAC7 defendants, those persecuted by Operation Backfire, and the recipients of disproportionate sentences like Jeffrey Free Luers.
