The Navy and Coast Guard continue searching for nine
missing japanese students who were capsized when a
U.S. nuclear attack sub collided during a surfacing
exercise.
Scott Waddle, the commander of the sub has refused
to discuss the accident with NTSB investigators until
the Navy completes its investigation.
Waddle says his lawyer recommended he only respond
to written questions about search and rescue efforts,
according to NTSB spokesman Ted Lopatkiewiscz.
NTSB says Waddle's information could be crucial to
their effort determining how the USS Greeneville failed
The Navy had announced Saturday it will conduct a court
of inquiry focusing on the actions of the sub's three top
officers: Waddle; its executive officer, Lt. Cmdr. Gerald
K. Pfeifer, and the officer of the deck, Lt. j.g. Michael
J. Coen.
