There is suspicion in many places that the oil companies have trimmed profits to the bone in an effort to help their buddy Bush keep his cronies in Congress
Ironically they had help from Hezbollah, whoe victory on the battlefield in Lebanon is seen by oil execs as deterring both the US and Israel from going to war with Iran!
Plummeting SUV use has also helped by pushing down demand.
These three factors have pushed gas as low as $2.30 a gallon in DC, but I doubt thse prices last. After the election, Republicans don't need low gas prices anymore, Bush might regain his appetiote for war, and let's not foreget Peak Oil.
Two years ago $2.30 a gallon seemed outrageous, now it seems a bargain. Maybe in two years $3.30 a gallon will be a price so low it attracts round-the-block gas lines!
