Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, speaking to his troops made the mistake of comparing the Iraq War to the Algerian War. This was in response to a question from Professor Richard Anderson of the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies.

The professor was asking if Iraq would end up like Vietnam, saying "the center of gravity" in the war was with US politicians.

Rummie stupidly responded by comparing Iraq to the Algerian War! He went on to say that war was was 12 brutal years of beheading and "insurgency" but that Algeria "is fine now." He stated it came down to Algerians to do the job and will be the same in Iraq.

This shows a shocking ignorance of history! Doesn't he realize that that war was won by the Algerians, who defeated and drove out the French after 12 years of war?

If I were a US soldier, I would not appreciate this prediction of a 12 year war ending in a US defeat from Rumsfeld...
