The Wasnington Post is reportign that global warming has gotten so bad that the polar ice over Canada is breaking up. Due to the dramatic reductions in ice, shipping firms are one more eying the fabled Northwest Passage.
In centures gone by, hundreds if not thousands of sailors perished in futile attempts to find a Northwest Passage over the top of the Americas.
As recently as 1969 a US icebreaking oil tanker forced its way through the passage, but the route was abandoned after the ship received hull damage on the return trip.
It is being said that icebergs(like the one that sank the Titanic)will remain a hazard ther for another century, driving away "reputable" shipping firms. The possiblity of a 4,000 mile shortcut, however, could be too much for "tramp steamers" to resist.
The Canadians are worried about junk, single-hull ships with poorly trained crews striking uncharted rocks and other marine hazards-and the possibility of a resulting oil spill worse than the Exxon Valdez spill.
Gee-global warming opens the Northwest Passage so we can get more oil out of Alaska and create even MORE global warming-what a "bargain!"
Also, on December 7, Pearl Harbor day, we remember those who have been imprisoned in the notorious Green Scare. Let's make December 7 a day of Solidarity and Rememberance for the SHAC 6 and all other Green Scare defendants.
