There is an old saying that "the cops and the Klan work hand in hand" at these things, and it seems to still hold true today as white sheets are traded for swastikas.
On April 19, 20-30 Nazis from the National Socialist Movement(NSM) marched from the Monument to the Capitol protected by security that reminded many of the Pope's security mobe. As the Nazis arrived, a huge number of DC residents-and even some tourists-on the Mall joined activists in marching against the Nazis, probing for a way in to block them.
The Nazis were in DC to rail against the right of immigrants to exist on this continent, so the police allowing them to (unsuccessfully) stalk immigrants list night but keeping immigrant supporters at bay today amounts to a slap in the face for DC immigrants from the police as well!
Six people were arrested before the prison bus filled with Nazis even arrived and were held until Monday on bogus charges of "assaulting a police officer." Bogus media reports are being used to back up equally bogus charges of "assaulting a police officer!"
There were horse cops, riot cops in heavy armor, you name it-over 400 cops in all! This was to protect a couple dozen racist, immigrant-hunting Nazis from maybe 75 activists and several hundred local residents (and even tourists) from the Mall.
One group that looked like tourists turned out to be anything but. They followed the Nazis all the way down with US flags and songs favoring diversity! Phone calls, emails, and massive person-to-person outreach had created a buzz that drew hundreds of residents disgusted with Nazis.
The cops were able to hold back either the main crowd or the activists alone, but against both together they were forced to back off a bit and the crowd was able to follow the Nazis closely all the way to the Capitol.
The Nazis arrived in a blue prison bus at 15th and Constitution, escorted like a Presidential motorcade. Once they dismounted, they formed up and immediately marched to the Capitol under massive riot squad protection. At the Capitol, protesters got close enough to distract many of them from the speakers but not into decent projectile range. The march was under a barrage of insults against racist scumbags, but the only thrown projectile I can verify is one well-earned water balloon.
The previous night, several Nazis(probably the same six that precipitated the arrests) were seen and monitored as they strutted around Colombia Heights, no doubt trying to find and trap immigrants one at a time. There was no reported police response to this.
A member of Mexicanos Sins Fronteras repeatedly asked the cops at the rally today "why are you attacking us — we are the good guys!"
It seems that the cops "served and protected" white power during the Nazi march, continuing the same pattern seen every night as cops try to make neighborhoods safe for condo-building gentrifiers!
Case in point-an independent reporter was harassed by the police for wearing Kevlar body armor-this after being informed by MPD that the Nazis were rumored to be carrying firearms
