Sprouts is a 29 minute weekly newsmagazine
produced collaboratively by community radio
stations around the US. It is available at
www.sproutsradio.org and also at
radio.indymedia.org in the global
newswire.

There is no charge to community radio stations to
carry it, just the stipulation that you contact
the producer with the information about when and
where it was used.

This week on Sprouts, we take a look into The
Revolution Will Not Be Funded Conference recently
held at University of California, Santa Barbara.
This conference was an opportunity for women from
around the world to get together and discuss the
impact of the non-profit industrial complex on
social justice movements, including anti-violence
organizing. Activists in the United States
struggle to develop structures outside the 501c3
non-profit model, and yet activists from other
countries reject this model as ineffective in
bringing about social change. The conference was
put on by a collective of women affiliated with
UCSB, INCITE-Women of Color Against Violence,
and was put together for anti-violence activists,
social justice activists, and anyone else who
struggles with the non-profit framework.

This 29 minute documentary includes the voices of
Loretta Ross, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Suzanne Pharr,
Amada Perez, Christine Ahn, Adjoa Jones de
Almeida, Surina Kahn, Stephanie Gilleaux, Paula
Rojas, Anannya Bhattacharjee, and representatives
of international grassroots community activist
organizations Creating Resources for Empowerment
in Action, Sista II Sista, Project South, and also
the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy,
all speaking about the issues surrounding 501c3
non-profits and activism in the US and beyond, as
well as possible alternatives to the non-profit
industrial model drawn from current organizing, US
history, and grassroots work for social justice in
Latin America, India, and other parts of the
globe.
