The NaATA
hearing could determine the outcome of a case by the
California-based Sun Belt Water Corporation. On Monday they
asked for a dismissal of the Metaclad case. It was denied. Sun
Belt is suing the Canadian government under NAFTA for $100-220
million in costs and lost profits due to Canada's water movement
restrictions to California.
Also, Vancouver Independent Media reporter,
Scott Nelson, requested to videotape the hearings. It was only
opposed by Metalclad, worried about bad publicity. Nelson's request garnered
much media attention, and thanks, by securing full media access.
Mexico's presentation started with the
