Sweat by Tzitzi Farmer (written for Hip Hop Poetry, Spring 2009, Hunter College)
I...am unstoppable
like beaver dams couldn't wreck my flow
as I build rivers through afros
check my ego!
I can build saunas across the borders of hairlines
that can eliminate any little girl’s perm into a Honey Comb Hairstyle Mascot.
I can....wash away your Cover Girl and uncover your herpes flair up.
I get front row seats at street fights when dudes decide to square up.
I met almost all your followed people on Twitter,
So I guess you following me makes you mutual friends with the world.
I AM SUPER SWEAT!
Building diamond blocks of salt in nervous palms,
leaving tsunamis to sleep on cracks in pavements,
like bats in a cave, or a bat and a caveman, a whip and a slave man,
WE are close.
I grip skin like hair stuck to Velcro,
no Johnson and Johnson powder would allow me to let go,
my rivers cross pigments more beautiful than skies,
and, well, the girls love how I drip off guys,
but I'm…
the river parted between braids.
The unstoppable.
