Roger Guenveur Smith, Playwright, Actor, Director, talks about his new play, "Juan and John", the story of the most infamous fight in baseball history - when SF Giants pitcher Juan Marichal smacked LA Dodgers catcher John Roseboro in the head with a baseball bat. Smith explores what it reveals about America in the mid 1960's and today with regard to the oppression of Black people as well as the contradictions between oppressed people and the need for people to rise above their differences and find their commonality.
Jay Rosenstein, Director, Producer, Writer and Journalism Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, talks about his latest documentary, THE LORD IS NOT ON TRIAL HERE TODAY, which takes a never-before-seen look at the landmark First Amendment case McCollum vs. Board of Education. This is the case that resulted in the beginning of separation of church and state in American public schools. The film had its world premiere in October of 2010 and has won two Emmy awards for Best Historical Documentary and Best Writing in the Mid America region and is currently airing on PBS stations across the country.
