This week's show features stories from NHK Japan, Radio Deutsche-Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From JAPAN- The Japanese government will buy back beef contaminated with unsafe levels of radioactive cesium. The owners of the Fukushima nuclear power plants has cancelled plans to build nukes in Turkey but will fulfill orders in Vietnam. The mayor of Nagasaki will call for a shift away from nuclear energy in his annual peace declaration. North Korea's Ambassador to the United Nations criticized US nuclear weapons policy. Iran blames the US and Israel for the killing of another nuclear researcher in Tehran.
From GERMANY- As the standoff in resolving the debt crisis in the US continues, the world economy is reacting by sending stocks and the dollar value down. Here is a discussion of the impact on the Euro.
From CUBA- New analysis shows that the wealth gap has grown in America between whites and people of color- at the same time corporate profits have soared. The US and Israel are campaigning to quash the Palestinian statehood bid at the UN. The Venezuelan government condemned new attempts by the US government to interfere with Latin American affairs. The Catholic church in Honduras is investigating the killing of 20 journalists in the past 4 years. NATO warned on Tuesday that it will bomb civilian buildings suspected of being used by Gaddafi forces.
From RUSSIA- Further details from a report last week about Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's referendum demanding that the US pay damages for its role in the Nicaraguan civil war of the 1980s. The new US Ambassador to Afghanistan said that the US has no intention of building permanent military bases there- however the US has never abandoned military presence in any country it has invaded since WWII.

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
NEWLY CORRECTED!!! The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < feed://radio.indymedia.org/en/podcast?keys=shortwave++
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

--"The people of Nicaragua were suffering oppression. This made us develop an awareness which eventually led us to commit ourselves to the struggle against the domination of the capitalists of our country in collusion with the U.S. government, i.e. imperialism.”
