A nc indymedia radio response to the negative press on anarchism and the nc indymedia collective after the friday, november 5th 2004 vandalism of the NC Republican Party headquarters in Raleigh, NC. [mp3 format | 20:52 min]

this piece aired on our november 21st show on 89.3fm, WXYC-Chapel Hill. It was and is a response to much negative mainstream press regarding anarchism and nc indymedia after the vandalism of the north carolina republican party headquarters in raleigh on november 5th. nc indymedia became a target of police and local media after a first hand account of the vandalism was published on our webpage on november 6th.

this article was interpretted as a confession that nc indymedia had organized the event. local right wing talk show hosts announced our meeting time and location repeatedly on air with the supposed hope of a confrontation between us and republican party sympathizers. the bookstore that allows us to have our meetings was bombarded with nonstop phonecalls for days from community members and media about "the anarchist meetings" they housed.

on wednesday, november 10th, danyele mcpherson (producer of nc indymedia radio) went on "Whats Left," 88.1fm WKNC-Raleigh to to make clear that nc indymedia was not responsible for the vandalism or the original content of the article as it was published on our open wire and that we simply reclassed it to become a feature. part of this interview will be heard in this piece.

this audio piece is our response to the fear that was being spread by local media regarding anarchists and misinformation about definitions of direct action.

nc indymedias coverage of the vandalism. this article links to the mainstream press accounts and other relevant material.

after our radio show aired, the news and observer wrote an article that made a great attempt at understanding our perspective...making it clear they had listened to our show.

news and observer also wrote a semi decent article about the anarchist panel discussion that was formed after the media uproar to help combat all the negativity.
