On Monday April 2nd, activists across the US and Canada staged demonstrations calling for the release of the text of the FTAA - the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Trade representatives and heads of states of the 34 countries negotiating the text, and representatives of the more than 400 corporations that sit on the industry advisory panels had access to the text but none of the general public had seen the details of the agreement. Citizens of the US and Canada had given an ultimadum that unless the text was released, direct actions and citizen uprisings would take place. In Ottawa, dozens of demonstrators were arrested after taking to the halls of parliament in search of the text. In San Francisco, Robin Hood and his merry band stormed the futures and options trading floor, the city’s only live trading floor, demanding the release of the text. Their demands were met a few days later, when on April 7th during their meeting in Buenos Aires, trade representatives agreed to release the text. The following is a collage of sound from the San Francisco action, at which 14 activists were arrested.
