AFS met with Dave Powell of the Metropolitan Council of Housing in NYC, to sift through the confusing terms of rent de-regulation and to get a handle on just what is going on, as June dates near for rent regulation laws to expire. It is highly unlikely that it will not be renewed. The key issues today have to do with resisting continuing efforts to dismantle the rent regulation laws. Dave Powell clarifies and explains the terms, and AFS and he discuss how privatization plays a part in this local austerity program to strip rent regulations of their tenant protections.
