Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom declared that Israel will not allow Hamas to take part in the Palestinian Legislative elections scheduled for January, yet this time it is backed by the Quartet of the US the EU, the UN and Russia who partially adopted Israel's stand.

Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom declared that Israel will not allow Hamas to take part in the Palestinian Legislative elections scheduled for January, yet this time it is backed by the Quartet of the US the EU, the UN and Russia who partially adopted Israel's stand.

Israel threatened to keep the West Bank roadblocks and checkpoints in place which
will prevent Palestinians to reach the polling stations if Hamas is to contest the lections.

In response, Hamas, who had a strong showing in the local governments' elections, said it will contest the parliamentary elections despite the Israeli threats to obstruct the democratic process if Hamas takes part in it.

The US who signaled a little ease in its stance said that it is a Palestinian process, and urged Israel to cooperate
