Buried in Bush's Bird Flu plannign is a call for "community snow days" for which people are being advised to stockpile ten days food. This implies possible 24-7 curfews and closed grocery stores!
Problem is, many people cannot FIND, AFFORD, or TRANSPORT ten days food, especially if they have no car or are on fixed incomes. A lot of people in the inner city live paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to suddenly buy two weeks extra food.
In addition, poor neighborhoods would be more likely than rich ones to be locked down in the 'real world."
What all this would mean is foraging parties would have to take to the streets, rading locked grocery stores for food just like they did in New Orleans after Katrina.
In New Orleans, people without cars were unable to get out of Katrina's way, and were left to face the wrath of the storm. Ever since then new Orleans residents have faced a blizzard of repression. Sound familiar?
Shit-the original bush plan intended to rely on the National Guard to enforce quarantines. After Katrina this looked like shit so they stoppe talking about it, but you can bet it's still there.
The worst thing of all is that if people have to duke it out with Blackwater contractors, riot cops, and troops just to eat the close contact and exertion will spread the bird flu far worse than keepign grocery stores open with automated checkout only and 20 foot intervals in line would!
