On February 14, native women in several Canadian cities organize events to remember the missing and murdered women of their communities and to speak out against violence.
February 14 is celebrated by many as Valentine's Day - a day of love. But what if the ones you love are gone? For the past 15 years, women of the impoverished downtown Eastside of Vancouver have organized a Memorial March to remember those who have disappeared or died violently. This year, native women in Toronto, Hamilton and Edmonton are doing the same, drawing attention to the high rates of violence against aboriginal women in Canada and saying "Enough!".
In the first of these two interviews, Robyn Bourgeois in Toronto and Marlene Trick in Vancouver talk about the February 14 events.
In the second, Sandra Gagnon talks about the pain of losing her sister, Janet Henry, who disappeared in 1997 from Vancouver's downtown Eastsider. Her remains have never been found, but Sandra remains committed to doing everything she can to find out what happened to her sister.
