More eminent domain Urban Removal planned for DC

"City Officials," meaning the Mayor's hacks, have announced plans to "redevelop" all of the area bounded by New Jersey Ave, NY Ave, North Capitol st, and K st. Sursum Corda residents just stopped a foreclosure and now don't want to sell!

Therefore, the Mayor's people want to use eminent domain to seize the site for "urban renewal." The existing Sursum Corda deal would rebuild 500+ homes for all exiosting residents, using an $80,000 credit to each omeowner to allow buying back in without a fat monthly payment increase(supposedly).

Now the city wants to build less than 200 homes on that site as part of the larger Plan, and reduced density plus eminent domain can only equal one thing-YUPPIES! This development is part of the aptly named "new communities" initiative that came from the Mayor's office.

They say they will guarantee the right of all residents to move back in, but they want to build less than half as many homes. The same promise was made to residents of Arthur Capper at 5th and K SE, and that is now a bulldozed, fenced-off ghose town in which NOBODY is allowed to live.

The whole area from Shaw east to North Capitol st is essentially separating two gentrified areas, so the Mayor had decided to destroy it, This is so the NW and Capitol Hill gentrification zones can link up at Union Station and the railroad tracks, it seems. If you cannot afford to pay $5 for a cup of Starbucks coffee, the City has one mesage for you: GET OUT!

Therefore, at WSQT Guerilla Radio we are telling Mayor Williams to take his New Communities initiative and stick it right up his eminent domain!
