This radio documentary 'Bumping Heads with the Police' is the result of a series of workshops with children in the after-school program at the Tyndale St. Georges Community Centre in Little Burgundy led by independent journalist Brendan K. Edwards. This project is a community news initiative that was launched during Black History Month.
The main focus of the workshops was to teach fifth and sixth graders in Little Burgundy basic radio skills thus giving them the ability to tell their stories to the greater Montreal population. This story is about Steve Edwards the founder of BUMP, the Burgundy Urban Mediation Project. The reporter for this radio doc is Tivon Thompson a twelve-year-old high school student who volunteers at Tyndale St. Georges. Through interviews with educators and social workers in Little Burgundy and his own personal experience Tivon has learned that BUMP is a valuable tool in protecting the rights of disenfranchised youth.
