Listen to a presentation given by Sonali Kolhatkar of Afghan Women's Mission & radio host of Uprising Radio at KPFK Pacific Radio in LA. This presentation was given in Montreal in April 2006, at an event organized by CKUT Radio's Community News Collective concerning media in a time of war, within the context of Canada's growing military role within Afghanistan.
In this presentation Kolhatkar offers a critique of Canada’s military role in Afghanistan, while specifically focusing on the situation facing Afghani women and the organizing of RAWA [the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan].
In February 2006, Canada set-up a military headquarters in Kandahar, cementing Canada's major military role in the country under the umbrella of NATO. Increasingly Canada's role in Afghanistan is an issue of increasing debate, with a growing number of political actions challenging Canada's military role in the country taking place across the country.
