In a report released Moday Amnesty blames governments of the world, including the United States for not having the political will to stop torture. The US government has allowed modern electro-shock weapons to be transferred by US companies to Turkey, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia, according to the report.

budget to Congress.

Banking on a projected 10-year $5.6 trillion budget

surplus, Bush expects to reduce the national debt by $2

trillion and provide $1.6 trillion in tax cuts over the

next decade. The budget also includes spending increases

$1.8 billion above inflation for education and $2.8 billion

for medical research.

The IWW struck the Philadelphia office of ACORN on February 8 to protest a series of unfair labor practices that had made working conditions intolerable. ACORN workers asked management to recognize their union and to respond to concerns about job safety and working conditions January 29. Although ACORN claims to be a progressive coummunity group promoting rights for working people, management refused to recognize the union or address workers' grievances.

amnesty torture story

"Torture does not happen in a vacuum," says Amnesty

International's newest report which blames governments

of the world, including the United States for lacking

the political will to stop torture.

Amnesty said between 1998-2000 at least 185 businesses

in 25 countries were making and supplying or brokering

devices used to inflict torture. They go on to report at

least 74 US companies are involved.

i made very few changes

At Trent Univesity in Peterborough, Ontario, eight students

have been baricaded inside of the Vice Presidents office

suite for more than 24 hours. Students entered the offices

at 8:30 Monday morning, with a list of demands. It includes: no

renewal of contracts with corporations advertizing on

the Trent Campus without a student refrendum on

advertizing, and the creation an offical policy

which makes all corporate and private relationships

with the university subject to review by the student
