WINGS: Women's International News Gathering Service - WINGS #07-24 Murder in the WAC - Memorial Day special but good all year

3 months 2 weeks ago
In 1947, in Tokyo, 500 women were dishonorably discharged from the US Army on the charge of homosexuality. "Murder in the WAC" is a one-woman show written and performed by Pat Bond, about how lesbians - herself among them - were recruited into the Women's Army Corps during WWII, and after the war expelled. There are a few mentions of the word sh-t that have had their vowels silenced for radio. Also a euphemistic reference to lesbian sex. This is comedy, but with a tragic ending.

Backbeat - Episode 189 May 26, 2024 Exploring the forgotten history of popular music

3 months 2 weeks ago
I don't do 'themes' on Backbeat, I just pick music I think sounds good together but sometimes patterns emerge. This week some things are the same; there's two instrumentals by groups that served as studio backup bands. Some things are opposite; someone lamenting his baby leaving, another wanting his baby to just go. We'll also hear one of the first guitarists to use a solid body electric guitar. It's all put together with the usual mix of vintage blues, country, gospel, rock 'n' roll and whatever else sounds good. Backbeat is also available in a 56-minute version with breaks. I am happy to provide custom station IDs, promos and liners. Email Lorne@Backbeatradio.com or visit www.backbeatradio.com for more information.

The Sonic Cafe - Sonic Café #390/Extremely Dangerous To Our Democracy

3 months 2 weeks ago
Sonic Café, Tied Up, that’s Dirty Honey there to kick off the show. So ahh welcome, I’m you're your host Scott Clark and this is episode 390. Propaganda, all governments use it on there enemies, and there own people too. Shockingly even the good old United States, all with the goal of controlling how we think and feel about an issue. This time the Sonic Café proves it. Listen for an example of hundreds of local newscasters from TV stations across America planting ideas in our heads by all reading from the exact same script. It’s kind of chilling to hear it in action, so yeah. Our eclectic music mix is pulled from the last 55 years. Listen for Freddie Mercury and Queen from 1974, also The Cure, Fleshtones, The Wombats, The Pretenders Santana featuring Aerosmith lead man Steven Tyler and of course many more, including a trip in the Sonic Café time machine back to 1968, we’ll spin Lemon Pipers, listen for Green Tambourine near the bottom of the hour. All that plus some other neat stuff tucked in for fun, straight ahead, from that little radio café way out here in the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville Tennessee, here’s the Pink Spiders, Freakin’ Out, and we’re the Sonic Café.
