In this edition of Radio Curious we would like to take you to Bhutan! East of Mount Everest and bordered by India and Tibet, Bhutan is a mystical kingdom considered by many as The Last Shangri-La. We will be visiting “The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan,” an exhibit which is currently displayed at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco until May 10th 2009. We start in conversation with Therese Bartholomew, the curator of the exhibit who helps us to understand what inspired the exhibit and the trials and tribulations of transporting such valuable religious objects from monasteries at the top of Bhutanese mountains to the city of San Francisco. Through todays edition we will also visit the exhibit itself and hear some of the ceremonies, meet the monks who have travelled with the exhibit and take a tour with museum docent Henny Tanugjaja. This week, we provide audio from a special presentation of two Israeli War resisters who were travelling across Canada shedding light on their bold decision to refuse military service in protest of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its ongoing violence in Gaza. Einat Gerlitz and Tal Mitnick are leading figures in a growing wave of dissent among Israeli youth, challenging the brutal military occupation and advocating for Palestinian liberation. Both of them have paid the price for their stand, enduring time in Israeli military prisons for their refusal to participate in what they call a violent system that perpetuates apartheid and genocide. Their actions have sparked a global conversation about the vital role of war resisters in the fight for human rights and a free Palestine. They are also examples of the call to others in military service during illegal wars to Abandon the Battlefield, a major activist call by the Centre for Research on Globalization. So this week, we thought we would give you the entire presentation by these two heroic individuals at the Hope Mennonite Church, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 20, 2025.

Our guest is Christopher Towler, PhD. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Sacramento. He is the Director of the Black Voter Project, Co-Founder of Black Insights Research and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics. In the first half of the show, we talk about the data that allows us to draw rather different conclusions than many folks had when going into the most recent presidential election. Many narratives were chronicled that are not ultimately supported by the polling of Black people around this country. In the second half of the show, we discuss the polling data since the election and what conclusions we can draw from it. We also examine some positive aspects of the data uncovered by Dr. Towler and how the progressive minds in this country can implement it into their strategies moving forward.
