Board of Rabbis to hold rally to protest Carter's book
The Board of Rabbis of Greater Phoenix will hold a rally to coincide with former President Jimmy Carter's book signing for his recently released publication, titled "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid."
The "Stand for Israel, Stand for Peace" rally will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, near the Changing Hands bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe. It will last for approximately 90 minutes.
"We want to give voice to what we see as the irresponsible use of the word 'apartheid' with respect to the situation in the Middle East," said Rabbi Darren Kleinberg, event organizer, "and much of the factually incorrect information in President Carter's new book."
The board of rabbis also wants to "emphasize the work Israel has done in its work in finding peace with the Palestinians, which we don't think has been fairly represented in the book," he said.
In support of the goal of educating the public about Israel's desire for peace, the rally will include songs and prayers as well as informational handouts.
