This piece, set to the music of the reforging of the sword from Return of the King, hails the decision by DC voters to eject three of mayor "Tony the Rat" William's cronies from office.
One of the three replacements is former mayor Marion Barry, who as mayor was must unpopular with Capitol Hill Republicans and white voters in general. His replacement Tony Williams has run a political machine aimed at remaking the city for wealthy upper-class residents.
Marion Barry and two newcomers were swept to a primary victory on a tide of voter discontent in wards 7 and 8, both among the poorest neighborhoods in the city.
This, in turn, may well stop Major League Baseball's dreams of squeezing $300 million plus from DC taxpayers, as Marion Barry has personally vowed to block the financing deal and both other newcomers are also opposed t5o it, whiloe Sandy Allen, Harold Brazil, and Chavous were key backers of Mayor Tony "The Rat" Williams in the City Council. Shortly before the election Williams warned baseball that if there is no deal prior to the inauguration they may never get a publicly-funded stadium.
Well, I guess a public hospital and adequate public housing just can't compete with baseball for the Mayor's attention, and voters in wards 7 and 8, as well as for a citywide seat seem to agree that that is grounds to stop his agenda of gentrification and urban removal.
