Saturday October 2

GALLATIN, Tenn.—On Saturday, Oct. 2nd, scattered showers and a cool evening won’t dampen the “spirits” or the candles at the 8th annual Candlelight Cemetery Tour in Gallatin, Tennessee. Expect a lot of excitement, some great stories and a few moist eyes as one of the best outdoor plays of the season unfolds in the city’s cemetery. Actors and actresses, stationed at several monuments will recreate, for a moving audience, the lives and times of some of Sumner County and Tennessee’s famous citizens buried on the grounds. And, to add to the evening, expect to meet some “Travelers” as you wait for your turn. These spirits, from various ages and places in Tennessee, have joined the group to greet you and share the limelight with their old friends.

The cemetery tour begins at 4 p.m. and the last audience group enters the cemetery at 10 p.m. on Saturday evening. Costumed guides will lead the audience groups along illuminated pathways to visit each station. To make your stay more comfortable, straw bale seating is furnished and refreshment concession carts will be set up. Free parking is available at several downtown lots and behind the First Presbyterian Church where a shuttle service is available to transport visitors to the ticket gate.

Admission is $7 per adult, $3 for children 12 to 6, and free for children under six. There’s nothing scary here, just a way of honoring those who made their mark on Tennessee’s history while raising funds for the Sumner County Museum.
