The Palestinian factions agreed to end the public display of weapons in the Palestinian areas after meeting with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza city. The move, which also includes ending the display of weapons during celebrations, should be implemented by Saturday.
A recent poll conducted by Al-Najjah University in the West Bank city of Nablus revealed that 54 percent of the Palestinians say there is no need for weapons other than that of the Palestinian National Security Forces. The poll included Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Ending the display of weapons would be a big help for the Palestinian Authority and would ease its task to maintain law and order especially in the evacuated areas in the Gaza Strip.
