Nexstar Broadcasting Group popped into the public consciousness this past week when two of its NBC affiliated stations decided not to air the new series “Book of Daniel.” It looks like religion on the surface, but underneath it's about power, control and profits.
Ostensibly, the reason is because of viewer complaints over its controversial religious subject matter. However, the reality is that Nexstar is trying to assert itself against the network’s power, as part of an aggressive campaign to grow and increase profits. Nexstar joins Sinclair Broadcast Group as a scrappy duo of TV station owners looking to challenge the big guys like CBS and News Corp to become the Clear Channels of TV. Paul looks into Nexstar’s assault over the course of 2005 and catches up on the media news.
