Durante el Foro Social Américas, 7-12 de octubre, 2008 en Guatemala, varias organizaciones presentaron un seminario permanente sobre el tema de memoria histórica. En los días del foro este seminario creó un espacio para dar testimonio y desarrollar las luchas contra la impunidad y por defensa de la tierra, la verdad, la memoria, y justicia. El seminario fue planificado por Centro Para La Acción Legal en Derechos Humanos (CALDH), Bloque Antiimperialista, La Fundación Centro de Servicios Cristianos (FUNCEDESCRI), y Hijos e Hijas por la Identidad y Contra el Olvido y el Silencio (HIJOS).
