Americans with annual incomes of $1 million or more reaped 43 percent of all the savings on investment taxes in 2003. The savings for these taxpayers averaged about $41,400 each. The newspaper's tax cut analysis showed that more than 70 percent of the tax savings on investment income went to the top 2 percent of the population, about 2.6 million taxpayers; that is, the same number of Kansas residents, as reported by the U.S. Sensus Bureau in 2000.

Last night, two carloads of private security guards were stationed outsidee the darkened SE clubs, either to prevent us from using the street and alleys for the same purpose we used the clubs for-or from reopening the buildings by force.

To make sure "that those inside will hear our voices and know that they are not alone", around 200 people from London, Birmingham, Reading and Cardiff demonstrated at the Harmondsworth and Colnbrook detention centers near London in the UK. The authorities are preventing detainees and demonstrators to establish a line of sight: Security guards are forcing detainees to stay in the building, police won't allow the demo to be in front of the windows.
