Recent Noam Chomsky lecture in Edinburgh

Recording of the Gifford Lecture that Noam Chomsky gave at Edinburgh University on 22 March 2005. The lecture, entitled Illegal but Legitimate: a Dubious Doctrine for the Times, was given at McEwan Hall in memory of the late Edward Said.

The phrase "illegal but legitimate" is taken from the report of the International Independent Commission on Kosovo, which held that the NATO bombing was "legitimate" while recognizing it to be in violation of internation law.

Fatima Khaldi is a Palestinian activist involved with International Women's Peace Service (IWPS), who speaks in this segment about grassroots women's organizing against Israeli occupation. IWPS is an organization of international and Palestinian activists, based in the village of Salfit in the West Bank, which resists the Israeli occupation through non-violent direct action. This radio segment was produced as part of special programming on CKUT Radio in Montreal on International Women's Day.
