The National Association of Broadcasters, or N.A.B. is the industry group representing commercial radio and TV stations in the US. and is perhaps the most influential lobbying body on Capitol Hill. Last week, as the N.A.B. held their annual "Radio Road Show" convention in San Diego, CA, local organizers with the Independent Media Center held an alternative gathering to assess the impact of increasing media consolidation, and to open up a dialogue about the successes and failures of the media democracy movement. On the 4th anniversary of the Palestinian Intifada, Israeli military forces have invaded Jabalya, Gaza's largest refugee camp, leaving a trail of destruction, death and carnage. Upwards of 100 Palestinians have been killed, including at least 20 children and some 300 seriously injured in the ongoing rampage in Gaza, in an operation that the Israeli state has called "Days of Repentance".
