Innocent Demand Justice, Segment 1

2 months 2 weeks ago
Ester Hernandez speaks of how she found strength to fight for the release of both sons who were framed by notorious Chicago Police Department cop Reynaldo Guevara. Guevara has been implicated in framing 57 people yet never been held accountable by Chicago authorities. She speaks of the trauma she an other mothers deal with in Chicago where a corrupt Fraternal Order of the Police protects dishonest racist cops and the politicians have looked away. She supports an elected Civilian Police Accountability Council which would put an end to police impunity. She spoke at a meeting of Chicago Democratic Socialists of America about the work of her committee and experience. "The Committee has been organized to put an end to wrongful convictions. We have a long list of innocent men who have been wrongfully imprisoned for voluminous years due to civil rights being violated."

Winning a Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC)- Chicago Leads, Segment 1

2 months 2 weeks ago
Frank Chapman of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR), which has been leading the fight for police accountability in Chicago, spoke to members of Chicago DSA at a strategy meeting to help win a Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC). He provided a brief history of the role of the police from slavery to the murder of Fred Hampton and Mark Clark, to present. He addressed the weaker alternatives Mayor Lightfoot has put forward, why CPAC is important to advocate for, and next steps for Chicago DSA in this fight. Chicago has the CPAC ordinance before the City Council, six solid alderman supporting and 7 others that campaigned in favor of it. Chicago's last mayoral election was historic for a number of reasons, one being how the grass roots campaign for CPAC influenced the results.

Building Bridges: Trump & Netanyahu Ally to Silence Omar & Tlaib , Segment 1

2 months 2 weeks ago
Reminiscent of Apartheid South Africa Trump and Netanyahu Form Unholy Alliance to Silence Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaibs Support of the Nonviolent Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Movement in Support of Palestinian People! with Ali Albunimah, Co-founder of The Electronic Intifada and author of The Battle for Justice in Palestine In a moving press conference, Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar stood defiantly against the Israeli governments attempts to repress and silence them. They used their platform in a way that we dont see often enough. They deliberately amplified the voices of Palestinian-Americans who have been denied the right to return to their homeland freely, and the brutal oppression that Palestinians experience every single day. In many ways recent events broke open conversations and political space that advocates have been working to create for years on Palestinian demands to return home, defend their right to boycott for justice, and hold Israel accountable for decades of abuses. Right now they are center stage in the mainstream media and Congress.

Taylor Report: India's Unilateral Move on Kashmir Will Backfire, Segment 1

2 months 2 weeks ago
Zafar Bangash returns to the Taylor Report to talk about Kashmir. Phil directs the discussion to the unfinished business of the UN decision to recognize the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people - the promised referendum on their political future. India, Bangash points out, boasts that it is the world's largest democracy. But it refused for 72 years to provide the most basic democratic right to Kashmiris to vote in a "free and impartial plebiscite."
