Right now there is little debate that the world is currently in the midst of the largest financial crisis since the 1930's. Matt Korn with the International Socialist Organization sheds light on this by reaching back more than a century to the writings of Karl Marx. The talk was given at the Regional Socialism Conference held in Austin November 15th and 16th. This was the eighth annual such event in the Lone Star State and by far the most well attended, with more than 80 participants registered throughout the two days.

As the dust settles after many celebrated the historic election of the nation's first African-American president and in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the 1930's not to mention two wars still raging, what is next? This is the question Sean Harkin, with the International Socialist Organization, took head on in his opening remarks at the 2008 Socialism Conference which was held in Austin, Texas on November 15th and 16th.

A new report documents how conservative talk show radio shock jocks are part of an echo chamber that reaches across the country through local and regional radio hosts. And talk of resurrecting the Fairness Doctrine never fails to rile up the conservative base. But there’s no plan to bring it back. There are better roads to a more democratic media.

Hundreds of Houstonians gathered in downtown starting at noon, as similar rallies and protests against proposition 8 and in favor of the rights of marriage for gays and lesbians took place all across the country and abroad. There were a number of speakers from the GLBT community, and the democratic party. The crowd was diverse in terms of age and gender, it was predominately white, thought there were many people of color.

Interview with Maria Gonsalves, leader organizer for UNITE here, about the terrible working conditions at Eagle Industries, formerly known as Michael Bianco Inc., where ICE launched a large immigration raid in March 2007, in New Bedford, Mass.

Since then, labor conditions have anything but worsened at Eagle Industries and there has been continuous intimidation towards union organizers there. The City Council recently passed a resolution to prevent Eagle Industries from closing down before the holiday season.
