Sonic Café, laying down some good vibrations with Expert in a Dying Field, from New Zealand, that’s 2022 music from the Beth’s. Great tune, and a great music video you should check out, so ahh welcome to the café, I’m Scott Clark presenting another hour of eclectic music, comedy and pop culture, it’s a thing we call the Sonic Café and this is episode 421. This time we’ll check in with comedian John Novosad who admits to many things, including the fact that he is not a good driver. Funny stuff. Our music mix is pulled mostly from the last eight years or so, with a couple of outliers from 1980. We’ll spin Pretty Lights, They Might Be Giants, Elvis Costello, Teenage Fan Club, Interpol and more. Oh and those two 1980’s tunes, listen for Ultravox with All Stood Still, and also Misunderstanding from Genesis. We’ll also drop in a couple of comedy shorts from Scotty Goff, who’s trying to leave Costco, and Michele Wolf who is certain that Mother Nature is trying to kill us in a passive aggressive way. All that and more this time from that little radio café way on the beautiful Pacific Coast, here’s Billie Joe Armstrong who’s got the police on his back, and we’re the Sonic Café.
Have humans changed in the last 10,000 years? Or are we biologically the same as the last 40-50,000 years. Some recently considered evidence suggests that so called civilization has promoted rapid evolutionary change in our species in the last 10,000 years. In this archive edition of Radio Curious we visit with Gregory Cochran, a physicist and anthropologist, who has co-authored the book “The 10,000 Year Explosion – How Civilization Accelerated Human Evolution.” His book asserts that changes in human biology, lactose tolerance and resistance to malaria for example, represent human evolution accelerated by civilization.
Over the course of two Radio Curious conversations with Gregory Cochran we discuss what some of these evolutions have been and why they occurred. We spoke with Gregory Cochran from his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 23rd, 2009 and began by asking him what biological indications exist to show an increase in human evolution in the past 10,000 years.
The book Gregory Cochran recommends is “Twilight Of The Mammoths: Ice Age Extinctions And The Re-Wilding Of America,” by Paul S. Martin.

This episode is audio from a webinar titled “Trump’s Presidency and the Prospects for Peace.”
The webinar took place on January 19, 2025, and was co-sponsored by the International Manifesto Group, Critical Theory Workshop, the International Action Center, The Palestine Chronicle, and Friends of Socialist China.
The event’s publicity blurb states:
“Given that the US is usually the prime instigator of our world’s conflicts, and given that Trump sometimes spoke on the campaign trail about ending at least some of them, we ask what prospects the incoming Trump administration offers for peace. Will Trump’s second term be more or less aggressive than his first? Will he honour his campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine? Will he double down on his enthusiastic support for Israeli genocide? Will he escalate the New Cold War on China or attempt another ‘deal’? Will opportunities for peace in Korea and Iran be seized or squandered? What to make of Trump’s bellicose rhetoric in relation to Central America? How will the new administration affect humanity’s trajectory towards peace and multipolarity? Join us to explore all these questions and more.”

Disgust, disdain and disbelief are emotions many of us have felt since the November election – and with good reason. But how long can we stay disillusioned and disaffected before fighting back? This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with author Dave Zirin, from The Nation and Edge of Sports, to have a cathartic chat about the future of this country and how to cope.
This program was produced on the day when Donald Trump both threatened and postponed tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The interview with Richard Wolff was held five days earlier in the Project Censored studio by Eleanor Goldfield.
Goldfield asks Richard Wolff how these tariffs might be aimed at you and me rather than at Mexico and Canada. She also elicits an extraordinary explanation of how immigrants have built the wealth of the US - rather than having been a drain.
Richard Wolff is visiting professor at the New School University in New York City; and the founder of Democracy at Work and host of their nationally syndicated show Economic Update.
The Project Censored Show is a weekly public affairs program that airs on 50 radio stations and is available on iTunes and Patreon. The program focuses on “The News That Didn’t Make the News.”
Please go to the YouTube channel of Project Censored for the full interview. Find it under the title: What Tariffs & Immigrants Really Mean for the Economy.
